Background
Sara Olsen, M.Sc.
Sara is an expert in flame-resistant and high visibility protective clothing. Sara’s specialty is aligning client needs with applicable legislation and standards, working with her clients and stakeholders to develop the best protective clothing solutions available. She has substantial experience working with manufacturers, distributors, industry experts, and end users to write PPE standards, implement PPE programs, and develop PPE itself.
Sara has had a lifelong interest in textiles and has had unique opportunities to work with protective clothing throughout her career. In addition to completing her Master of Science degree in Textile & Apparel Science, she started her career at the University of Alberta working with the Protective Clothing and Equipment Research Facility (PCERF). During her years at PCERF, she was involved in cutting edge PPE research and conducted a wide variety of protective clothing tests, including over 1500 flash fire manikin burns. She has also had a career-long interest in women's PPE, which includes her M.Sc. thesis focus, as well as product development and sourcing work.
Sara has a strong technical background thanks to years of laboratory testing and actively participates on several standards committees. Years of working with end users and distributors have given her unique insights into PPE functionality as well as industry standards and OHS legislation.
